As the community prepares for the start of school later this month, the Montgomery City Public Library is taking a break. After a successful summer reading program, the librarians need time to rest and regroup. Thank you to everyone who participated in the reading program and attended the fun events.  Since the summer reading program has wrapped up, MCPL invites you and your family to attend several free monthly programs that do not require a library card.  There’s something for everyone!

Robotics will be on the first Saturday of the month beginning in September 6, 2025.  Please note the changes. Monthly registration is required for each class.  The Circuit Creators, for ages 2-6, will meet from 9:15 to 10:00 am.  Electric Explorers, for ages 7-12, will meet from 10:15 to 11:00 am.  Lastly, the Dynamite Designers, for ages 13-17, will meet from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Please stop by MCPL, call (573-564-8022), or email (mcplmo@gmail.com) to register ahead of time.

Story Time Adventures for babies through preschool ages is held at 10:00 am on Mondays (September-May), starting September 8, 2025.  Each Monday, we have fun learning early literacy skills through reading, rhyming, singing, talking, and playing.

Books and Bites is a special program for children ages 5-10.  It is held on the first Monday of the month from 2:00-3:00 pm from September through May.  The children will enjoy a book and prepare food that complements the reading material.   Registration is required for each program.  Please stop by MCPL, call (573-564-8022), or email (mcplmogroups@gmail.com) for more information or to register.

Family Game Night is scheduled for the first Thursday evening of the month from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Bring your family and friends out to play games like chess, Giant Sorry, Catan, and more!  You’re welcome to bring your own game too, but you are responsible for it.

MCPL holds a LEGO Club on the second Saturday of the month from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  All ages and abilities are welcome to build LEGO creations based on themes, books, kits, or free choice.

The Teen Book Club is held on the third Monday of the month from 3:00-4:00 pm.  The teens take turns choosing a title for the group to read and then discuss at the next meeting.

MCPL has a popular After-Hours Teen Night for middle and high school students on the third Saturday of the month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Teens can hang out with friends, play video games and board games, eat snacks, and dance to music provided by TEE SQUARE DJ.  Participants will need to stay the entire time unless a parent/guardian permits them to leave. Participants must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian, unless they drive themselves to the event. The MCPL Behavior Policy will be enforced.

The library has two Dungeons & Dragons groups.  One is a teen group that meets from 4:30 to 5:30 pm twice a month.  The adult D&D group meets on two Saturday mornings from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.  Specific dates are determined by each group and may vary each month.  Contact Brian at the library if you're interested in participating.

The Needle Arts Gathering takes place on the second Sunday of the month from 2:00-4:00 pm. You bring your own needle arts craft to work on amongst a group of your peers.

The Adult Coloring Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month from 2:00 to 3:00 pm to color, relax, and fellowship.  It’s a wonderful break for a busy day.

The Arts & Crafts Class meets once a month on the second Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm to create some inspired projects. Registration is required.  Please stop by MCPL, call (573-564-8022), or email (mcplmogroups@gmail.com) for more information or to register.

Books and Beyond meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.  This is for developmentally disabled adults.  The activities change per month.  They often enjoy stories aloud or on the Promethean board, then play games or do crafts.

There are two adult book clubs available at MCPL.  The ABC Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm to discuss that month's selected book.  The Page Turners Book Club meets on the third Friday of the month at 1:00 pm to discuss that month's selected book. Members take turns choosing the monthly reading selection.

A relatively new event that's gaining popularity is the Introverts’ Book Club. The club meets on the fourth Monday of each month at Rugged Root Coffee Shop from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Participants can choose their own reading material and decide whether to discuss their selection. You can, if you want, but you don’t have to. This quiet time of reading and fellowship is aimed at teens and adults.

MCPL hosts the Homeschool Hangout from 9:00 to 10:00 am on the last Friday of the month.  This is for homeschooled students and caregivers to enjoy time with friends and to learn something that complements the homeschool curriculum.

You and your family are invited to participate in the multitude of activities at the Montgomery City Public Library. You’re also invited to just visit the library to say hi, to escape the heat of summer, to let your children play in the Children’s Department, to use the Creation Station Maker Space, and to check out reading materials, games, kits, puzzles, and items from the Library of Things.  We look forward to seeing you soon!
