Grant Award for MCPL

The Montgomery City Public Library received a Spotlight on Literacy grant award.

MCPL Receives Spotlight on Literacy Grant

The Montgomery City Public Library is proud to announce that it received a $4,917.00 Spotlight on Literacy Grant from @USIMLS.  This Spotlight on Literacy Grant will focus on health literacy for seniors.  This funding will be used to create Memories Matter kits, which will help senior citizens, especially those with Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia, keep their minds sharp.  The kits will include books, discussion and photo cards, puzzles, and other items to promote cognitive and communication skills.

Gaylee Harris, MCPL library director, commented, “The Memories Matter kits are in response to patron requests for resources for senior citizens.  We are very happy to receive this Spotlight on Literacy grant to provide funding for twenty-one themed kits, which will be available for patron checkout and used in library programming.  Some of the themes include the four seasons, the 1950s, animals, travel, the great outdoors, and patriotism to name a few.  The Memories Matter kits are another wonderful addition to the Montgomery City Public Library!”

This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Dungeons & Dragons

Contact MCPL if you are interested in D&D games.

Do you like to play Dungeons & Dragons? Would you like to learn how to play?  We are currently looking into having Dungeons & Dragons available as an activity at MCPL, but we need your input to help us plan what direction to go.  There are forms at the Library for you to complete or you could email mcplmo@gmail.com the answers to these questions.

  • Your name and email
  • Age Group:    Teen   Adult
  • Are you interested in playing D&D or another Table Top RPG at the Library?
  • Would you prefer another system over D&D? If so, which one?
  • If you are a teen, would you like the sessions to be part of the After Hours Teen Night?
  • Tentatively, two adult groups will be formed. Which would work best for you?
    • a) Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 pm twice a month
    • b) One Saturday a month from 10 am-12:30 pm
  • Would you prefer games be run by a professional, a peer, or a library staff member?
  • Would you be willing to DM?
    • If yes, is this specific to DMing D&D, or would be open to running other systems?
    • Please list any specific systems you'd be willing to run.
